Materials in contact with drinking water: the impact of the new European regulation

HYDREOS, on behalf of France Water Team, organized last September two webinars on the recast of the Drinking Water Directive, focused on the part concerning the harmonization at European level of the certification of materials and objects in contact with water intended for human consumption. Expected by the end of 2020, the main evolutions brought by the text on this subject concern the implementation of a common evaluation system on a European scale, and the establishment of positive lists of substances/components authorized for materials in contact with drinking water that are unique for all countries. The timetable from this publication indicates that member states will have two years to transpose it into their national regulations, and that the first national positive list will be submitted to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) by 2024.

These two French-English webinars gathered more than 150 participants from 12 European countries, with a first session focused on Europe (10/09/2020), and a second one focused on the current regulation in France and the upcoming changes (29/09/2020).
